When searching online for QD/QR swivels, it can be hard to find solid and reliable info. We’ve struggled ourselves in this effort as well. So we decided to put some quality info out there that may help you when it comes to finding the right sling attachment for your rifle.
The QD or Quick disconnect Attachment Style
QD attachment styles are most commonly used on tactical rifles like AR-15s, M16s, AUGs, and many more. The style consists of a push-button swivel that’s usually attached to a sling. Once the push button is pressed in, it releases ball bearings that then allow the post to slide into the receiving end. Once the post slides in you then release the button and it locks the swivel in place. This allows you to connect and disconnect your sling relatively quickly, hence the name Quick Disconnect.
The QR or Quick Release Attachment Style
QR attachment styles are more commonly found on your standard hunting rifle. Most wood stock or bold action rifles will have a receiving Lug with a hole already screwed into the stock. If the stock doesn’t have a Lug then you will need to have one installed before using a QR attachment. To attach, Loosen the screw and press in to release open the pin. Then slide the pin through the Lug, reconnect the receiver and tighten the screw back down to secure the QR attachment. This offers a strong durable connection that shouldn’t ever slide or come apart while carrying the rifle.
Both styles are great for carrying your rifle, what matters is what you prefer based on your rifle style or the options you prefer. QD styles are more commonly used for Tactical Rifles but can be used on more traditional hunting rifles as well. QR styles are most commonly found on the stocks of hunting rifles and benefit by locking the sling on with a minimal chance of it sliding off or coming unattached.
